WELDING WITH PLASTICS

In this workshop we experimented with melted plastic to recycle it into new toys. Wearing respirators and working outside, we broke down common polyethylene objects using scissors, clothes irons, a toaster oven and a panini press. We created fabrics using recycled plastic grocery bags, sewed it into umbrellas, and combined these with cast, melted laundry detergent bottles to make parachuting action figures. We used saws and rasps to shape leftover melted plastic stock into marshmallow slingshots.
