Beam Team is an after school format for middle schoolers that I have worked on since 2016.
The concept for Beam Team is that I offer a theme, technical guidance, a bunch of odds and ends to play with,
and a series of connected prompts and students work in pairs to brainstorm, design and build out ideas.
At the end of the program, we invite family and friends to come experience and celebrate what's been made.
During the 2018-2019 school year, the theme was Interactive Soundsystems. Using funnels, slinkies, cardboard, analog electronics, motors, tin foil, chopsticks sewing and more, Beam Team designed the way that we turn the sound on and off, the way that we hear the sound, what the sound is, and one or more ways to manipulate the sound using Pure Data.
